Community Engagement
Training Series
Thank you for your interest in the Office of Equity’s second
Community Engagement Training Cohort!
Our goal is to create a supportive environment where teams can deepen their engagement efforts across multiple bureaus and programs. This spring, we plan to bring together 6–8 teams of staff from different programs for three half-day sessions focused on building skills and strategies for community engagement.
Each team may include up to six staff, ideally with a mix of direct service and manager-level participants.
Once your team is assembled, please complete this short application so we can learn more about your project. We encourage you to answer the questions thoughtfully, as this will help us ensure the cohort experience is meaningful for all who participate.
After reviewing applications, Office of Equity staff will reach out to selected teams to schedule a follow-up call. This will give us an opportunity to meet your team, learn more about your work, and confirm that your project is a strong fit for the cohort.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Office of Equity at:

Team Application
When it comes to Health Equity and effectively addressing the Social Determinants of Health, meaningful and authentic Community Engagement is a core pillar of this effort. By building trust with community partners, centering the voices of those most impacted by health disparities, and leading participatory practices, we as a health department can more effectively develop strategies and solutions that ensure all our residents, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status, have equal access to opportunities for good health and well-being.
The Office of Equity (formally, PEP Unit) is pleased to announce a 3-part Community Engagement training program for staff. The training aims to enhance MCHD's understanding of effective community engagement by providing staff with a framework to support equitable planning efforts and equip communities with the resources needed to identify local health equity priorities. This training also seeks to support the development of health equity projects across the department.
Key Training Outcomes
A deeper understanding of the Spectrum of Community Engagement to Ownership framework by exploring best practices and what "community work" entails.
Build Community Partnerships though engagement strategies that strengthen new and existing collaborations for health.
Capacity building to sustain a culture of effective Community Engagement within the Health Department.
